Mallard ducklings at Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds, England.

The Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos) is a dabbling duck which breeds throughout the temperate and subtropical Americas, Europe, Asia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to Australia and New Zealand for game purposes. They inhabit lakes, estuaries, lagoons and mudflats, being common throughout New Zealand. The Mallard is omnivorous and very flexible in its food choice, feeding by dabbling for plant food and invertebrates.
