Common Brushtail Possum 1

Common Brushtail Possum 1

The common brushtail possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) is a nocturnal, semi-arboreal marsupial native to Australia, and is the largest of the possums. It has large pointed ears, a bushy tail with a prehensile tip which helps it grasp tree branches.

The common brushtail possum thrives on whatever vegetation is available and does well through most parts of Australia and Tasmania. Introduced in the 19th century into New Zealand it has become widespread and is a threat to native forest and wildlife.
