Red Kangaroo 2

Red Kangaroo 2

The red kangaroo (Macropus rufus) is the largest of all kangaroos and the largest surviving marsupial. It ranges throughout western and central Australia typically inhabiting scrubland, grassland, and desert habitats.

In hot and dry environment classic of desert inland Australia, the red kangaroo maintains its internal temperature at 36°C by using a variety of physical, physiological, and behavioural adaptations. These include having an insulating layer of fur, being less active during the day and resting on the shade, panting, sweating, and licking its forelimbs.
